Confirmed Teams for 2022 Field of Dreams Game

After the epic finish and runaway success of the magical Field of Dreams Game last week, major league baseball has done the inevitable and confirmed the game will return to the Dyersville, Iowa cornfield in 2022, this time pitting the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds.

The Cubs and Reds are in the midst of a 3-game set in Cincinnati this week, but they'll take it from Ohio to Iowa on August 11, 2022.

After the Chicago White Sox' Tim Anderson channeled Shoeless Joe Jackson for the most memorable regular season home run in ages, baseball commissioner Rob Manfred had already let the notion slip of another Field of Dreams game. "I think it’s pretty clear we’re going to be back next year, and we’ll have to talk about it after that. But it’s just been so successful that it’s hard not to take the opportunity to do it again.”

The Cincinnati Reds were the first all-professional baseball club, forming in 1869, known then as the Red Stockings. The Cubs, meanwhile, are the oldest team to play consecutively in one city, beginning with the formation of the National League in 1876.

So these two teams are a natural (to borrow another iconic baseball movie title) to play in the 2nd annual Field of Dreams Game.

When the Cubs and the Reds emerge from the cornfields for the 2022 game, all they'll need to do is come anywhere close to the magic and excitement of the 2021 classic, it'll be a huge success.
