Yermin Mercedes "Retirement" Lasts One Day

Yermin Mercedes is pulling a page from George Costanza's book. You know that whole "retirement" thing he posted on Instagram on Wednesday? Forget about it. The Yerminator is back.

In all seriousness, there was a lot of concern for Mercedes after his sudden retirement post, and a lot of the blame was placed on the treatment he'd gotten from 76-year-old Chicago White Sox manager Tony La Russa, who blasted the 28-year-old rookie for not knowing the "unwritten rules" of baseball when he swung at a 3-0 pitch with a big lead. Mercedes' numbers fell off a cliff after that controversial moment in mid-May.

Now, after being sent down to the minors on July 2nd, Mercedes had seemingly had enough, and apparently quit baseball on Wednesday. But in the 24 hours that followed, he had some time to think, and now seems committed to making it back to the big leagues.

"I will never give up," his new post began. "I owe my family, my organization and my fans, I apologize.... I carry  baseball in my blood." He eventually summed it up with "I love everybody, I am back."

For Thursday night at least, he is back in uniform for the White Sox  Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights.
