Trade Rumor: Pirates Could Trade This First Baseman To The Red Sox

With the MLB trade deadline looming, the struggling Pirates are expected to be trading some players. Colin Moran is somebody who comes to mind, as he is a veteran who is having a very solid season. In 49 games this year with Pittsburgh, the first baseman is batting .280 and has four home runs. Although he is not a power hitter, he still is very effective because of his ability to hit for contact. MLB.com notes that he could be an excellent addition for the Red Sox.

The Red Sox are having a fantastic season, but need to improve at first base. Bobby Dalbec just is not cutting it, as he is only batting .217 and already has almost 100 strike outs. Now, that does not mean that the Red Sox should give up on the youngster entirely, but he would be better suited in a depth role. Furthermore, Danny Santana and Marwin Gonzalez have been even worse. Thus, trading for Moran makes all the sense in the world.

Moran's contract situation would also interest Boston. He has two more years of arbitration before he can hit the open market. The Red Sox would have control over him for awhile, so he would be very affordable. He could be an excellent addition to the lower half of the batting order, as he gets on base fairly regularly.

The Red Sox and Pirates could agree on a Moran trade in the near future. The Pirates would get some prospects and the Sox would finally have their starting first baseman. Keep an eye out for this.
