Trade Rumor: NY Mets Eyeing Big Move at Third Base!

The New York Mets are desperate for third base help, and there are reports that the Minnesota Twins' Josh Donaldson is squarely on their radar:

The Mets' 3rd base situation has been a disaster of late, with both J.D. Davis and Jonathan Villar on the injured list. According to New York MLB insider Andy Martino, acting general manager Zach Scott is laser-focused on patching up the position with a big upgrade at the deadline, and talks with the Twins have already commenced.

Martino's sources have indicated that the Mets are not interested, however, in trading any of their top prospects, which might make the construction of a deal difficult.

Another sticking point to any trade for Donaldson is that the Bringer of Rain would be the 'bringer of tax penalties' as his $21 million dollar a year contract would put the Mets over the luxury tax threshold. That, says Martino, is not something the Metropolitans are keen on.

Another big-name 3rd baseman, Kris Bryant, has been in the Mets' sights for some time now, and if the Cubs continue their recent swoon (8 losses in their last 10 games), those talks might heat up again, if they haven't already.
