These Big Names Still Available On Deadline Day (And Where They Could Be Headed)

After a day of stunning turns of events and blockbuster deals, there's still one more day of trade action before the deadline hits at 4:00pm EDT. Some of the more talked about names still on the block:

Trevor Story

The Colorado Rockies free-agent-to-be shortstop has been a hot commodity during trade talks, but who will pull the trigger? The New York Mets are said to be hot on Story's trail, while it's thought that their crosstown rivals from the Bronx are out, after acquiring Anthony Rizzo and Joey Gallo.

Jose Berrios

The Minnesota Twins ace, who still has another year of control, is said to be a "prime target" of the San Diego Padres, according to MLB.com's Padres reporter AJ Cassavell. Also still in the discussion, the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners, and, once again, the Mets.

Berrios is having a solid season, with a 7-5 record for the last-place Twins, with a 3.48 ERA. The Twins will only make a deal if they get an offer they can't refuse.

The Padres may pivot to Texas Rangers' starter Kyle Gibson if they can't secure Berrios.

Craig Kimbrel

Talks are ongoing with about 10 teams for the prime closer on the market. The Chicago Cubs are looking at a big haul here, between the fact that Kimbrel is under contract for 2022, and the bidding war that's underway.

Kris Bryant

The other big name the Cubs are going to unload has been tied extensively to the Mets (who aren't they in on?). The talk here is that they might be going for a package that also includes Cubs' starter Zach Davies.

Lots of work still to be done today.
