Rumor: Royals and Angels Talking Pitching Trade

The Kansas City Royals have been fielding trade offers on lefty starter Danny Duffy and it sounds like the Los Angeles Angels are getting serious with their pursuit.

When Mike Trout went down the Angels were supposed to crumble, however that hasn't happened at all and the team is looking to add ahead of the July 30 deadline. The team hasn't made the postseason since 2014 and currently sit 4.5 games back of a wildcard position and nine games back of the division leading Houston Astros.

As for Duffy, the southpaw would certainly help the Angels rotation immensely. He's battled a bit of injury troubles this season but has thrown 57 innings so far in 2021, punching-out 61 hitters. His 4-3 record with a 2.53 ERA is the lowest he's carried since 2014. It's obvious Duffy has found his groove this season and could find himself pitching some big time innings for a contender, either being the Angels or another team in the AL.

There's been a ton of interest so it's certainly shaping up to be a bidding war for the 32-year-old pending free agent. This is music to the ears of the Royals who are 36-51 on the season and headed for another losing season. The trade interest can drive up the price and Kansas City will be likely receive a top-15 team prospect for Duffy.
