Rockies Manager Comments on Trade Rumors Surrounding RHP Marquez

The Colorado Rockies continue to occupy the basement of the National League and starting pitcher German Marquez' name continues to surface on trade reports. Turns out the Rockies have no interest in trading their starter.

Rockies manager Bud Black had this to say about the team dealing their All-Star pitcher before the July 30 deadline:

He's on a multi-year deal, so we have him for a couple more years. ... He's not going anywhere. Even though it might be out there, there might be some noise, we let our guys know these guys aren't going to be traded. That's how our owner feels, that's how so many people in our organization, who are the decision-makers, feel about German and a few other guys, too.

Marquez is under team control until 2024 and the 26-year-old has shown he's capable of being the team's ace. He owns a 3.59 ERA in 105.3 innings so far this season, and has been lights out lately including a near no-hitter last week.

The Toronto Blue Jays are extremely interested in Marquez and have reportedly made a trade offer but it doesn't sound like it was enough. Keep an eye on the Rockies as many teams continue to try and poach their talent.
