Free-Agent Pitcher Holding Showcase for Interested Teams

Free-agent veteran lefty Cole Hamels is trying to pitch somewhere this season and has decided to try and get some attention headed his direction. Hamels will pitch in a showcase for a number of teams, which appears to be taking place July 16.

Some teams that are expected to make the trip include the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels. At 37 years old, Hamels isn't getting any younger and knows this could be it for his career. In 2020 he only pitched 3 1/3 innings with the Atlanta Braves after hurting his shoulder and triceps.

If Hamels is showing a live fastball that's hovering around 90/91 mph and some off speed stuff that's moving well and staying low in the zone, there's a chance a team takes a flyer. The four-time All-Star holds a career 163-122 record with a 3.43 ERA. There's no doubt he's shown in the past he's capable of getting the job done, however due to his recent injury troubles teams stayed away last winter.

Now, he hopes the summer showcase will heat up the interest levels.
