Trade Rumor: Oakland and Minnesota Discussing a Deal

The Oakland A's are looking to upgrades to their roster and one team to watch is the Minnesota Twins as the struggling ball club plans on moving some of their veterans. The A's have interest in acquiring Nelson Cruz and the two teams have had dialogue the past week.

The 40-year-old Cruz is a glorified DH now as he's winding down his career. This season he's batting .296 with 14 HR and 34 RBI. A stellar season after hitting 16 HR in 53 games last season and 41 the season before. It's obvious Cruz still has some pop in his bat and the A's would love to insert this into their lineup.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com mentions:

Oakland’s front office has a history of making deals when they see a chance to make a run, and based on what we have seen thus far, this year’s team could make some noise in the American League.....Oakland is one logical landing spot for Cruz, whose market will be limited to AL teams in need of designated hitter help. The A's had a .666 OPS from the DH spot as of Thursday, which was 13th in the AL, ahead of only the Rangers and Tigers.

The Twins are also likely to hear from the Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays, so the A's could find themselves in the middle of a bidding war.
