MLB Rumors: Red Sox Talking With Two Big-Name Pitchers

Toronto Blue Jays reliever Seranthony Dominguez walks off the mound during 2025 game.

The Boston Red Sox have been loud about wanting more middle of the order thump, but the bullpen is quietly turning into its own offseason priority.

With Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock giving them a strong late inning foundation, Boston is still shopping for more leverage arms, especially after recent roster churn thinned out the relief depth chart.

Red Sox checked in on Seranthony Dominguez

Seranthony Dominguez fits the exact profile teams chase in October: power stuff, big game experience, and the ability to handle high stress innings.

The right hander has bounced between a few clubs recently, but he has continued to miss bats and profile as a late inning option, which is exactly what the Red Sox need if they want to shorten games behind Chapman and Whitlock.

This past season, Dominguez recorded a 3.16 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, with 79 strikeouts across 62.2 innings and 67 games. He also finished 15 games and led the league with 12 wild pitches.

Danny Coulombe could solve Boston’s lefty relief need

Danny Coulombe is the cleaner role fit, because the Red Sox need another trustworthy left handed relief option. Even with a rougher finish after a deadline move, Coulombe’s longer track record as an effective southpaw makes him a logical target if Boston wants a second lefty who can get real outs against tough parts of opposing lineups.

Since 2022, the 36-year-old holds an impressive 2.38 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, with 142 strikeouts across 136.1 innings and 159 appearances.

If the Red Sox land one of these relievers, it wouldn't be shocking if they keep pushing for another arm too.
