BREAKING MLB SIGNING: Pete Alonso Signs Massive Deal With Shocking Team

After meeting late into the night with a couple of suitors, slugger Pete Alonso has decided to leave the New York Mets and has signed a five-year, $155 million free agent contract with the Baltimore Orioles.

It’s a stunning turn of events for the Mets, who also lost their long time closer and another fan favorite Edwin Diaz in free agency just last week.

As for the Orioles, they finally add the big power bat they’ve needed in the middle of their lineup. Alonso has hit the 4th most home runs in the majors over the last five years. He will be a big RBI bat plugged into a lineup of young, promising hitters.

Mets fans will say that the organization didn’t appreciate what they had in the Polar Bear. But it all seemed to come down to roster and lineup construction. In the not-too-distant future, Juan Soto will probably have to be a DH. And Alonso, who doesn’t have the best defensive metrics at first base, will also likely have to become a DH. So having them both around on long-term deals, just simply didn’t make sense for Mets GM David Stearns.

So much so, that they never even made him an offer, reports insider Joel Sherman.

Nevertheless, that leaves a huge hole in the lineup, and the Mets will have to do something to address it.
