MLB Trade Rumors: Top 3 Giants Free Agent Targets This Offseason

Kyle Tucker, Chicago Cubs pending free agent

The San Francisco Giants faltered down the stretch despite an effort to get back into the playoff race, and finished at 81-81, well back of a Wild Card berth. They now have fallen short of the postseason in each of manager Bob Melvin's two seasons at the helm, and he was relieved of his duties after Game 162 with one year left on his contract.

But what about the roster that Melvin had to work with? There will be changes there as well. They've already been mentioned as a prime suitor for a trade for a particular ace-like pitcher, but what about free agents they could target?

Jackson Roberts of si.com has proposed these three top-end players on the open market that would be perfect fits for the Giants:

Kyle Tucker, Chicago Cubs, OF

Starting with the biggest ticket, four-time All-Star Kyle Tucker will be a much sought-after free agent this winter, and he's expected to command an offer north of the $400 million range. He's a superstar who can do it all—a five-tool player who brings power, speed, contact ability, and defensive skills to the table.

The Giants outfield is more or less devoid of all of those attributes, at least at the elite level that Tucker provides.

Granted, San Francisco has tried and failed many times in recent years to sign the top free agent on the board, but with players like Devers and Adames now in tow, perhaps that could change.

Zac Gallen, Arizona Diamondbacks, SP

Pitching depth will be a big priority for the Giants this offseason. Logan Webb and Robbie Ray are aces at the top of the rotation, but they simply don't have enough starting depth after that.

Gallen, despite a down season, has enough All-Star cache on his resume to still warrant a big contract in free agency, and could fit the Giants rotation well. Gallen had a career ERA in the lower 3.00s coming into 2025, and two top-five Cy Young finishes. This year, he battled it all season long, finishing with a 4.83 ERA and the lowest strikeout ratio (8.2K/9) of his seven-year career. But he could fare quite well moving to

Gleyber Torres, Detroit Tigers, 2B

Torres had a solid season in the Motor City, though his numbers weren't that much of an improvement on his final year in the Bronx. He finished with a .256 average, a .745 OPS, 16 home runs and 74 RBIs. He played 145 games.

While the Giants have stars around the infield at first base (Rafael Devers), shortstop (Willy Adames) and third base (Matt Chapman), second base is a hole right now, and Torres would plug it nicely.
