MLB Trade Rumors: 6 Teams Will Push For Hunter Greene Trade with Reds

Hunter Greene, Cincinnati Reds pitcher

We're still waiting for someone to explain why the Cincinnati Reds would consider trading fireballing young starter Hunter Greene, but it certainly seems like, from all accounts, they are listening on offers.

Greene, 26, just completed his second straight season with an ERA well south of 3.00 (2.76 to be exact, in 19 starts, with a 132:26 strikeout to walk ratio in 107.2 innings). It could be Greene's lack of durability, yet to stay healthy for a full season, as feeding into the Reds' willingness to listen on him.

Insider and former GM Jim Bowden writes, "we can’t ignore the rumors because they’re so loud and no one is denying them."

But with four years of team control remaining, plenty of suitors will be interested in the former 2nd overall pick (2017 MLB Draft). Bowden suggests six teams that are likely to be getting in line to land Greene from the Reds:

  • Los Angeles Dodgers
  • New York Mets
  • New York Yankees
  • Boston Red Sox
  • Baltimore Orioles
  • San Francisco Giants

6 Teams that should be interested in a Hunter Greene trade

The Dodgers have a pretty loaded rotation already, so seeing their name on the list is somewhat surprising, though any big star that comes available is inevitably tied to them at one point or another.

The Mets are in dire need of improving their rotation this offseason, with several starters being free agents. They have some young pitching prospects to send back to the Reds, if that's their interest, and even some good position player prospects. They're expected to push hard for a Tarik Skubal trade first, however, if the Detroit Tigers can be convinced to let their Cy Young hurler go.

The Orioles are another team that needs to improve their starting rotation... The same story that's haunted them for a few years now. They have some good young position players to offer up in return.

The Red Sox and Giants are looking to upgrade their staffs this winter. The BoSox are looking for a No. 2 behind Garrett Crochet, while the Giants would like to add to their Logan Webb and Robbie Ray one-two punch.
