MLB Trade Rumors: Top 4 Suitors Named for Eugenio Suarez
There's no question that Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suarez is the top offensive catch for teams at this year's trade deadline, if the Snakes decide to sell. They're 5.5 games back of a Wild Card spot, with three other teams in front of them.
Suarez is having a tremendous year, with 32 homers, 4th in baseball, and 80 RBIs with an .888 OPS. He blasted his 32nd longball on Saturday with a boatload of scouts in attendance.
Insider and former MLB GM Jim Bowden has named three teams that he feels would be the top suitors for Suarez, speaking on the Foul Territory podcast on Saturday.
New York Yankees
The Bronx Bombers' third base situation is a mess, and with Jazz Chisholm Jr. rightfully moved back to second base, and DJ LeMahieu released, they have a gaping hole at the hot corner. Oswald Peraza, with a .149 batting average, a .456 OPS and an OPS+ of a meager 28, is sharing the bag with Jorbit Vivas, who has a .167 average. Combined, the two of them have four home runs.
"Suarez—those 30 home runs... That changes things for the Yankees," said Bowden. New York is currently the top Wild Card team, three games back of the Toronto Blue Jays for top spot in the AL East going into Saturday's play.
Chicago Cubs
The Cubs currently have a one game lead atop the NL Central, but are dead last in home runs, slugging, and OPS from their third basemen this season. Perhaps no team would benefit more at the hot corner from adding Suarez.
A trade for the slugger "really adds to the Chicago Cubs," said Bowden. Over the last calendar year (161 Games), Suarez has 51 HR, 131 RBI and a .911 OPS.
Compare that to Matt Shaw (.200, 2 HR) and Jon Berti (.219, 0 HR) who are currently the Cubs' main men at third.
Milwaukee Brewers
This is the team that the Cubs have been battling for first place with. The Brewers need to add a bat as well, sitting just one game out in the division. They are bottom five in the majors in all those same third base offensive categories that the Cubs are dead last in.
"(Trading for Suarez) probably wins the division for the Brewers," Bowden exclaimed.
That's three teams. Let's add another one that's getting a lot of play as a potential Suarez landing spot, and it's a familiar one for the Venezuelan power source:
Seattle Mariners
This makes a ton of sense. They're 27th in the majors in home runs from their third baseman and are 24th in OPS. Rookie Ben Williamson is currently manning the hot corner for the M's, with one home run and a .610 OPS in 245 at-bats.
Suarez spent two seasons in Seattle a couple of years back, so president of baseball ops Jerry Dipoto knows what the slugging third-sacker can do.

Even though it's only a two-month rental with Suarez set to become a free agent after the season, there could be some kind of bidding war for his services—again, IF the Diamondbacks decide to sell.
