MLB Trade Rumors: Jhoan Duran Lands With Dodgers in Proposed Trade

Could Jhoan Duran be traded to the LA Dodgers? We look at a proposed deal

Tanner Scott... Kirby Yates... Blake Treinen (coming back after the All-Star Break)... Alex Vesia. Pretty stacked bullpen, wouldn't you say? For the Los Angeles Dodgers, there's never enough depth on the pitching staff. Whether in the starting rotation, or with the relief corps.

So with Minnesota Twins' fireballer Jhoan Duran a potential trade candidate, expect the Dodgers to go after him to shore up their bullpen even further for a playoff run. Especially with the shaky injury history of their starters.

Jim Riley of Ballcap Sports has proposed a deal that would get Duran to Chavez Ravine:

LA Dodgers receive:

  • Jhoan Duran

Minnesota Twins receive:
  • Kellon Lindsey, SS (Dodgers' No. 8 prospect)
  • Noah Miller, 2B/SS (# 22 prospect)
  • Patrick Copen, RHP (# 28 prospect)

For the Dodgers, they get Duran, his 1.66 ERA, 15 saves, and his propensity to touch triple digits on the radar gun. He has reached 100+ mph on 141 pitches this season, and is in the 100th percentile in average fastball velocity (100.3 mph), the 96th percentile in xERA and the 100th percentile in eliciting groundballs.
AND he has two more years after this one of team control before he can reach free agency. He would make the Dodgers' bullpen untouchable.

For that, LA must give up three top-30 prospects in this hypothetical trade.

Lindsey is only 19 and still at Rookie Ball, but he has speed to burn (rated 80/80 in running by scouting value), good range and quick hands in the field. He could be their shortstop of the future long after Carlos Correa is no longer able to take the field.

Miller, 22, is closer to the bigs, and could be up as soon as next year, and many believe he could win a Gold Glove almost immediately.

Copen, the 23-year-old right-hander, is at Double-A, and MLB Pipeline says he has the "upside of a mid-rotation starter but his more realistic ceiling is likely as a late-inning reliever."

If the Twins, who find themselves 4.0 games back in the Wild Card chase going into the All-Star Break, decide that it's time to hit the rebuild button, this proposed trade could give them a head start.
