MLB Trade Rumors: 3 Potential Trade Destinations for Red Sox OF Jarren Duran

It would still be surprising to see the Boston Red Sox move on from outfielder Jarren Duran, but his name just won't go away on the rumor mill. The BoSox, despite losing their first two games out of the All-Star Break, were still holding down a Wild Card spot—barely—going into Sunday's play.

Duran was a breakout All-Star in 2024, leading the major leagues in doubles (48) and triples (14), while batting .285 with 21 homers and 34 stolen bases. He's behind that pace in every category this season, but is still a legit outfielder and leadoff hitter capable of providing a big boost to any contending team in need—IF Boston chooses to trade him.

Per Tim BrittonAaron Gleeman and Chad Jennings in The Athletic, Duran is No. 1 on the Trade Board right now, and while one team has been notably linked to Duran for much of this season, there are three that make sense as a fit:

San Diego Padres

We've heard plenty about the Padres doing their best to convince the Red Sox to send Duran their way this season, but they haven't managed to pull it off yet. The Friars, of course, have Jackson Merrill in center, and Fernando Tatis Jr. in right. But left field has been an adventure, currently with Gavin Sheets playing regularly there—his best position is DH. And that's exactly where Duran has been plying his trade this season, after splitting his time between left and center before that.

New York Mets

The Mets are 25th in OPS out of their center fielders this season, and 26th in batting average. They could certainly use an improvement over Tyrone Taylor, who has had the bulk of the starts there, and is batting just .210 with a .573 OPS and two homers in 87 games.

Philadelphia Phillies

It's been a few years now, it seems, that the Phillies have needed an upgrade in their outfield production. They're currently 25th in baseball in OPS from their left fielders, 23rd from their centerfielders. In home runs, they're dead last in the majors out of the CF spot. The Mets & Phillies, who are waging a war for top spot in the NL East, could also do battle in trying to win the Duran Sweepstakes, should the Red Sox actually decide to deal him.
