MLB Rumors: Guardians Take One Player Off The Trade Block

Cleveland Guardians manager Stephen Vogt walks onto the field during 2025 game.

Despite swirling trade rumors, the Cleveland Guardians appear to be holding firm on keeping All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Guardians Reportedly Unwilling to Trade Emmanuel Clase

Clase, under team control through 2028, has drawn interest from contenders like the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, and Philadelphia Phillies. But with a team-friendly contract and elite closing ability, the Guardians don’t appear willing to move him, at least not during this deadline period.

Clase has posted a 2.86 ERA with 21 saves over 44 appearances this season. While not quite matching his jaw-dropping 2024 campaign (0.61 ERA, 47 saves), the 27-year-old remains one of MLB’s most dominant late-inning arms.

His affordable deal, including $6.4 million in 2026 and club options of $10 million in 2027 and 2028, only strengthens Cleveland’s reluctance to part with him.

The Guardians reportedly view Clase, along with José Ramírez, Steven Kwan, and Cade Smith, as “untouchable” assets. That’s notable given Cleveland’s shaky offense and fringe playoff status at 48-50.

While other pieces may be moved to address scoring issues, Clase’s role as a long-term bullpen anchor remains safe, at least until the offseason.
