MLB Trade Rumors: 3 Notable Baltimore Orioles To Become Trade Candidates
The Baltimore Orioles came into the 2025 season as one of the teams expected to be in the chase for a playoff spot in the American League, but currently sit last place in the AL East, at 13-19. They're 29th in team ERA, and 25th in team batting average.
If the O's don't get back into the playoff race, there are a number of players who will become trade candidates as the season gets into the heat of July and closer to the trade deadline. Insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today says, "teams will be pouncing on" these three notable Orioles if they become sellers:
Zach Eflin
The 31-year-old starter arrived in Baltimore last season in a trade from Tampa Bay, and has been sensational for the Birds, with a combined 2.70 ERA in 12 starts for them since then, with a 1.05 WHIP and a 55:12 strikeout to walk ratio. This season he's got a 3.00 ERA with a 0.83 WHIP and has surrendered only one walk in 18 innings.
Eflin will be a free agent after the 2025 season, coming off a big $18 million salary this year. He will be in demand as a rental.
Seranthony Dominguez
Another hurler obtained at last year's trade deadline, Dominguez has struggled a bit this season, walking nearly six batters per nine innings in relief. In 2024, however, he secured 10 saves for the Orioles, holding down the back end of their bullpen down the stretch. He's an experienced high-leverage arm out of the 'pen, and those are always in high demand at the deadline.
Cedric Mullins
The 30-year-old swift-footed center fielder is having a tremendous year at the plate, and he, too, will be a free agent at season's end. Mullins has an .862 OPS on six homers and 20 RBIs this season, good for an OPS+ of 154.
He'd stolen 115 bases the previous four seasons, but after watching his on-base percentage dip into the .305 range the past couple of years, he's getting on base at a career-best .386 clip this time around, and has five stolen bases thus far. He'll be the best centerfielder on the market at the deadline, and as a free agent after the season.
