Kansas City Royals Sign Starter

The Kansas City Royals have signed Daniel Mengden to a minor league contract.

Mengden spent the 2021 campaign with the Kia Tigers after several seasons in the majors. In 21 starts, he had an 8-3 record, 3.60 ERA, and 104 strikeouts. Overall, it was a pretty solid season for the 29-year-old, and he has earned himself the opportunity to fight for a spot with the Royals.

In 60 career games with the Oakland Athletics, Mengden has a 17-20 record, 4.64 ERA, and 224 strikeouts. He last appeared in the majors during the 2020 season, where he had a 0-1 record, 3.65 ERA, and 10 strikeouts. He will now be aiming to make the Royals' rotation from here to build on these numbers.

When looking at Kansas City's roster, it's clear that Mengden could end up making their team. He has a good amount of major league experience and has strong moments in the league with that. It will be interesting to see what happens from here with him.
