Yankees Lose Luke Voit Indefinitely

In the middle of 4-team Wild Card race, the New York Yankees have lost a power bat off their bench, as Luke Voit has gone on the injured list.

He aggravated his left knee during a pinch-hit appearance against the Toronto Blue Jays Wednesday night, and the inflammation has now landed him on the 10-day IL, which will keep him out for the rest of the regular season and the Wild Card game (should the Yankees hang on to make it).

Voit has had an injury-filled season, with his surgically-repaired left knee being a constant source of pain. He's logged only 68 games played, 11 home runs and 35 RBIs. That's a far cry from his 2020, when he blasted 22 home runs in just 56 games with an insane 1.558 OPS.

But the acquisition of Anthony Rizzo to play first base made things a bit crowded in the lineup for someone like Voit, and his many injury problems (he also had an  oblique issue) this season didn't help his cause.

There's no word if he might be back should the Yankees make it as far as the ALDS.

They've called up righthander Albert Abreu to fill Voit's roster spot.
